- Choose the right location: Most lilies prefer full sun to partial shade (6+ hours of sunlight). Lily of the Valley thrives in full shade. Ensure good air circulation to prevent disease.
- Prepare well-draining soil: Lilies hate waterlogged roots. Amend heavy clay soil with compost and coarse sand. Ideal pH is 6.0–6.5.
- Plant bulbs at the right depth: Plant bulbs 3–4 times their height deep (typically 4–8 inches). Space 8–12 inches apart depending on variety size.
